How to dispute your TransUnion credit report
Found something wrong on your TransUnion credit report? You can challenge it for free — either through TransUnion’s statutory report site or via Credit Karma (which uses TransUnion data).
TransUnion has one standout feature the other CRAs don’t: a formal Notice of Dispute (NOD). When you dispute something, a flag is automatically placed on that entry, visible to lenders, while the investigation is active. And if the lender doesn’t respond within 28 days? TransUnion has stated they will remove the data.
Key takeaways
- Dispute online at transunionstatreport.co.uk or through Credit Karma.
- TransUnion automatically flags disputed items with a Notice of Dispute (NOD), visible to lenders.
- Lender doesn’t respond within 28 days? TransUnion’s policy is to suppress or remove the data.
- Credit Karma refreshes weekly — resolved disputes may take up to 7 extra days to show.
- Use PO Box 647, Hull, HU9 9QZ for post. The old Callcredit Leeds address is outdated.
How to submit your dispute
Get your TransUnion credit report via the statutory report site (transunionstatreport.co.uk), Credit Karma, MoneySavingExpert Credit Club, or TotallyMoney.
Find the item you want to dispute and click “Something not right?” (statutory site) or “Raise a dispute with TransUnion” (Credit Karma). Select “Raise a dispute”, describe the issue, and upload supporting evidence (up to 5 documents; JPG, JPEG, PDF, or TIFF).
You’ll receive a dispute reference number by email. A Notice of Dispute (NOD) flag is automatically placed on the entry.
Can you dispute through Credit Karma?
Credit Karma UK uses TransUnion data exclusively. You can raise disputes through Credit Karma, which forwards them to TransUnion for investigation.
The statutory report site (transunionstatreport.co.uk) is TransUnion’s own dispute portal with the most direct route. Credit Karma adds a routing step and has a 7-day refresh lag — resolved disputes may take up to a week longer to appear in Credit Karma.
Both routes support the same dispute types — no functional limitations on Credit Karma.
TransUnion contact details
You can call TransUnion on 0330 024 7574.
For email enquiries, contact [email protected].
If you need to write to them, send your letter to TransUnion Consumer Services Team, PO Box 647, Unit 4, Hull, HU9 9QZ. Make sure you use this address — the old Callcredit Leeds address is no longer in use.
Their registered office is at One Park Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS3 1EP, but the PO Box is the correct address for disputes and enquiries.
What’s a Notice of Dispute?
TransUnion is the only UK CRA with a formal Notice of Dispute feature. When you raise a dispute, a NOD is automatically placed on the entry. This signals to lenders that the information is under investigation.
The NOD stays active until the dispute is resolved or 28 days have passed. This is different from a Notice of Correction, which is a permanent 200-word statement you write yourself.
What can you dispute on TransUnion?
Anything that’s inaccurate: late payments, defaults, CCJs, fraudulent accounts, duplicate entries, incorrect balances, old data (6+ years), personal details, financial associations, account status, hard searches, and electoral register information.
TransUnion retains hard searches for 2 years.
What evidence can you upload?
Up to 5 documents per online dispute. Accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, PDF, TIFF.
Important: If TransUnion doesn’t receive your evidence within 28 days, the dispute is closed with no action taken.
You can also send evidence by post to the PO Box address or by email to [email protected].
How long will it take?
TransUnion must provide an outcome within 28 days. If the lender doesn’t respond within 28 days, TransUnion’s policy is to suppress or remove the disputed data.
Outcomes: Amended (corrected), Removed (deleted from report), or Unchanged (verified as accurate).
Credit Karma users: add up to 7 additional days for the refresh cycle.
What if TransUnion says no?
Keep going — a rejection doesn’t mean the information has to stay on your file.
You can add a Notice of Correction, which is a free statement of up to 200 words explaining your side. TransUnion will review the wording before adding it to your file, and lenders must consider it.
You can also raise a formal complaint directly with TransUnion. They’re required to acknowledge it within 5 working days and provide a final response within 8 weeks.
If you’re not satisfied with their response, the Financial Ombudsman Service can step in. It’s free to use, but you’ll need to escalate within 6 months of TransUnion’s final response.
For data protection concerns, you can raise the matter with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

FAQs
Can I just dispute through Credit Karma?
Yes. Credit Karma forwards disputes to TransUnion who handle the investigation. The statutory report site is the most direct route, but Credit Karma works fine for standard disputes.
What exactly is a Notice of Dispute?
It’s a flag automatically placed on a disputed entry on your TransUnion report. Lenders can see it and it signals the information is under investigation. It gets removed when the dispute is resolved.
Notice of Dispute vs Notice of Correction — what’s the difference?
A Notice of Dispute is automatic and temporary — placed while a dispute is being investigated. A Notice of Correction is a permanent 200-word statement you write yourself. Different purposes, and you can have both at different times.
Is the old Callcredit address still valid?
No. TransUnion used to be called Callcredit, but the old address (PO Box 491, Leeds, LS3 1WZ) is outdated. Use: TransUnion Consumer Services Team, PO Box 647, Unit 4, Hull, HU9 9QZ.
