Is ClearScore accurate?

ClearScore gets your credit report and score from Equifax, one of the UK's three main credit reference agencies. This means that ClearScore is, most of the time, as accurate as Equifax.

However, errors can happen—either made by Equifax or by ClearScore.

Why is my ClearScore different from Experian or TransUnion?

ClearScore relies on data held by Equifax and does not receive information from Experian or TransUnion.

In fact, ClearScore is not a credit reference agency at all.

If your ClearScore is different from Experian or TransUnion, it’s your Equifax score that is actually different.

Why is my ClearScore different from my Equifax score?

Your Equifax credit score and the number that ClearScore shows should be identical. If this is not the case, contact ClearScore immediately – it's most likely a bug on their side, or they mismatched your personal details.

You can contact ClearScore in several ways:

  • You can leave them a voice message at 0207 582 8212, and their customer service team will get back to you. You can't call them directly.
  • You can also leave a message by clicking on the "chat bubble" that you can see on the bottom right-hand side of the ClearScore support page.

Do lenders use ClearScore?

Most lenders don't check your ClearScore account—they check your Equifax score instead. In most cases, though, the data they see is the same.

However, when you apply for a product on the ClearScore marketplace, ClearScore will share some additional information with these companies—like your "affordability" and "stability" scores. ClearScore calculates these based on what they see in your bank account if you gave ClearScore access to it.

How do I fix something wrong in my ClearScore report?

There are two ways to do this. The first is to go to Equifax directly and ask them to correct it – ClearScore doesn't actually manage your credit report or score.

ClearScore can also help here - get in touch with them.

The good news is that on the customer review Trustpilot, ClearScore is rated "great", with a score of 4.5 out of 5.0, based on over 13,000 reviews. Fixing any errors should be straightforward.
