Turn your rent payments into credit history.
Rent reporting is when your rent payments are reported to credit agencies, helping you build a track record of on-time payments over time.
Traditionally, rent hasn't counted towards your credit history, even though it's often your biggest monthly expense. Rent reporting changes that — creating a record that lenders can see, just like a loan or credit card payment.
With Wollit, your rent is reported to Experian and Equifax each month.
Payment history is the single biggest factor in your credit score. By reporting your rent, you're adding another account showing consistent, on-time payments — which strengthens your credit profile.
Each month you pay rent on time, it's recorded on your credit file. Over time, this builds evidence that you can manage large, regular financial commitments reliably.
Rent reporting is especially helpful if you have a thin credit file, are new to the UK, or are rebuilding your credit — it turns payments you're already making into credit-building activity.
Wollit reports your rent payments to Experian and Equifax — two of the three major UK credit reference agencies.
Different lenders check different agencies, so having your rent on both gives you good coverage when applying for credit.
Unlike loans or credit cards, rent payments aren't automatically shared with credit agencies. Your landlord or letting agent would need to report them — and most don't.
That's where rent reporting services like Wollit come in. We connect to your bank, identify your rent payments, and report them on your behalf each month.
Without rent reporting, your largest monthly expense remains invisible to lenders — even if you've never missed a payment.
You can use rent reporting if you're a Wollit subscriber, pay rent from a UK bank account that supports Open Banking, and make regular rent payments of a similar amount each month.
Wollit supports over 96% of UK current accounts. If your bank supports Open Banking, you're likely covered.
Rent reporting works best when your payments are consistent — same amount, same time each month. If your rent varies significantly or you pay in cash, we may not be able to verify and report it.
You can set up rent reporting after you've made at least two rent payments from your connected bank account.
Credit agencies require us to verify your rent pattern before we can report it. Two similar payments — around the same amount, at roughly the same time each month — give us enough to confirm your tenancy.
This usually means you can start rent reporting about two months after your tenancy begins.
To set up rent reporting, you'll need:
• A Wollit subscription
• A UK bank account that supports Open Banking
• At least two rent payments already made from that account
• Your rent amount and payment date
You'll connect your bank securely, confirm your tenancy details, and select your rent payments. Once verified, we'll start reporting your rent each month.
Wollit supports over 96% of UK current accounts through Open Banking. This includes most major banks like Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Santander, Nationwide, and digital banks like Monzo, Starling, and Revolut.
If your bank supports Open Banking, you'll be able to connect it when setting up rent reporting. If your bank isn't supported, it's usually because they haven't enabled Open Banking yet — unfortunately, that's outside our control.
No. You don't need to change anything about how you pay rent.
Keep paying your landlord or letting agent the same way you always have — by standing order, bank transfer, or however you've set it up. Wollit simply connects to your bank, finds those payments, and reports them.
There's no new account to pay into, no extra steps on rent day, and no changes for your landlord to make.
No. Your landlord doesn't need to know, approve, or do anything for rent reporting to work.
Wollit connects directly to your bank account and identifies your rent payments from there. Your landlord isn't involved in the process and won't be contacted.
Rent reporting is something you set up for yourself — it doesn't affect your tenancy or your relationship with your landlord.
When you connect your bank account, Wollit securely accesses your transaction history. We look for payments that match the rent details you've provided — the amount, the timing, and who you're paying.
Each month, we check for a rent payment around your expected payment date. If we find one that matches, we report it. If your rent details change, contact our support team so we can update them and keep finding your payments.
Wollit connects to your bank through Open Banking — a secure, regulated system that lets you share your bank data with trusted services.
We use a provider called TrueLayer to make this connection. TrueLayer is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and works directly with UK banks to retrieve your data safely.
You'll log in to your bank as normal to authorise the connection. Wollit never sees or stores your banking login details.
Yes. Connecting your bank uses Open Banking, which is a secure, regulated system backed by UK banks and the Financial Conduct Authority.
Wollit can only view your transactions — we can't move money, make payments, or access your account in any other way. It's read-only access.
Your data is protected with bank-level encryption, and we never see or store your online banking login details. The connection is made through TrueLayer, an FCA-regulated provider trusted by millions of users.
If your rent amount, payment date, or reference has changed, contact our support team and we'll update your tenancy details for you.
Keeping your details accurate ensures we find and report your rent correctly each month.
Yes. You can stop rent reporting at any time by ending your tenancy in the Wollit app.
Once you stop, we won't report any future rent payments. However, all the rent payments we've already reported will stay on your credit file — that history doesn't disappear.
If you move to a new property, you can set up a new tenancy and start reporting again.
If your rent goes up or down, contact our support team so we can update your tenancy details.
We look for payments that match the details you've provided. If your rent amount has changed but your settings haven't, we may not recognise your payment that month.
If you start paying rent from a different bank account, you'll need to connect that new account to Wollit.
We can only see transactions from the bank account you've linked. If your rent comes out of a different account, we won't be able to find it.
You can update your connected bank in the app at any time.
If you start paying rent to someone new — for example, your property was taken over by a different letting agent — contact our support team so we can set up a new tenancy for you.
We use the payee details to identify your rent. If who you're paying has changed, we'll need to update your tenancy information so we can keep finding your payments.
If your rent payment isn't appearing, it's usually one of a few things:
It hasn't cleared yet — Rent can take a few days to clear your bank. We check for new payments each morning, so give it a day or two.
Your details have changed — If your rent amount, payment date, or reference has changed, we may not recognise the payment. Check your tenancy details are up to date.
Your bank connection needs refreshing — For security, bank connections expire periodically. If your connection has lapsed, reconnect your bank and we should find your rent.
If you've checked all of these and your rent still isn't showing, contact our support team.
If you're having trouble setting up rent reporting, it's usually because we can't match two rent payments to verify your tenancy. Here's what to check:
Do you have two payments yet? — We need at least two similar rent payments in the last 90 days to verify your tenancy. If you've just moved in, wait until you've made your second payment.
Is the right bank connected? — Make sure you've connected the bank account your rent actually comes out of.
Do the amounts match? — We look for payments that match the rent amount you entered. If your rent varies or includes other charges bundled in, we may not be able to match it.
Is your payment date close enough? — We check within a few days either side of the date you've entered. If your payment falls outside that window, we won't find it.
If you've checked all of these and still can't set up, contact our support team with your rent details and we'll help you get it sorted.
If a rent payment wasn't reported, it usually means we couldn't find or verify it that month. This can happen if:
• Your rent details changed and weren't updated in the app
• Your bank connection had expired
• The payment didn't match what we were looking for (different amount, timing, or reference)
Don't worry — a missed report doesn't hurt your credit. We simply don't report anything for that month. Your previously reported payments remain on your file.
Check your tenancy details and bank connection are up to date. If you've checked all of these and your rent still isn't appearing, contact our support team and we'll help you get it sorted.
We only report a rent payment if we can find it. If we don't find a payment that month, we simply don't report anything.
How the credit agencies handle gaps in reporting is between you and them — if you have questions about how your credit file displays this information, you'd need to contact them directly.
All your previously reported on-time payments stay on your file and continue contributing to your credit history.
No — credit agencies only accept rent payments going forward, not historical ones.
We can only report rent from the point you set up rent reporting with Wollit. Any payments made before that can't be added to your credit file.
That's why it's best to set up rent reporting as soon as you can — the sooner you start, the more payments we can report.
Your rent payments typically appear on your credit file within a few weeks of being reported.
We report rent monthly, and it can take a short while for credit agencies to process and display the information. You should see your rent appearing on your Experian and Equifax files within the first month or two of reporting.
